Once you've completed a tutor request, you will start receiving offers from tutors who are interested in helping you. If you are interested in working with a tutor for the first time, get to know them through messages before sending a request. 

You can start a message thread by clicking on it and replying directly to the offer the tutor sent, or doing so from the tutor's profile.

Once you have started a chat with a tutor, the thread can always be found under the "Inbox" tab in the menu bar.
