This is part of the Tutor Marketing Blitz.

What?

The best thing about using Facebook to market yourself is that it is both easy to search and full of groups. Consequently, you can easily find several groups that consist of relevant students (“school community” groups, class  of 20XX groups, course-specific groups, etc...). Exploring and joining student-populated groups might just turn into your most lucrative acquisition channel; so, make sure you are thorough in your completion of this step

Why?

Being in the right groups and knowing how to use them will make finding students substantially easier. Consequently, taking the time now to identify/join key groups and then maintaining your engagement with these groups throughout the year will help you find and connect with every last student who needs your help.

How?

1. Join your school’s “Community” 👨‍🏫

  • Enter your school’s name in the search bar on Facebook

  • Select “Groups” as your search filter

  • The first result should have the title of your school and “College Community Group” in the description. Join this community with your “.edu” email

2. Find and join groups 🔎

  • Explore the community to find and join any groups that might include students who need your help

  • Easy ones to find are the four active “Class of 20XX” groups, the “Campus Tips” group, the “Free & For Sale” group, and maybe a generic group for all students

  • Next, search for the classes you cover to see if there are any relevant course-specific groups you could join. While these groups are more rare, they are also obviously more valuable because they provide a very targeted audience

3. Make your initial post in each group ✏️

  • Once you have been accepted into a group, it is time to start marketing yourself

  • To do this, post your profile URL and introduce yourself to each of the groups you are in or do it in the app like this.

  • Keeping your message specific to the group may prove to be beneficial so keep that in mind

Here are a couple examples of good posts (make sure to personalize before posting):

Feeling stressed about exams? Let me tutor you! I can help with all chem classes up to Orgo 2 for just [$20/hour]. Check out my tutoring profile to schedule a session with me [link to web profile].

Hey everyone! I’m an [Applied Math & Economics double] major with a 4.0 GPA and [4 years of] tutoring experience. I can help you out with pretty much any of the undergraduate math or econ classes. My normal rate is [$20/hour], but your first session with me is $20 off using code: [PASTECODE]. Check out my tutoring profile for a full list of covered courses here: [link to web profile].

Hey guys! I’m a Junior Chem major on the Dean’s list with a passion for helping others. Just wanted to let you all know that I can tutor all chem classes up to Orgo 2. Check out my tutoring profile to see my rates/request a session with me, first one is $20 off with [PASTECODE] - [link to web profile].

4. Periodically check groups for posts about needing help/looking for a tutor 🕵️‍♀️

  • An easy way to do this is to search the word tutor and filter your search to include posts from “Your Friends and Groups”

  • Looking through these posts to find ones specific to one of the classes you can tutor is an excellent way to find new clients

  • Just make a comment linking to your profile/telling them your rate or shoot them a message to discuss (and comment “Messaged you” so they know to check their message requests)

5. Get ready for an influx of clients 💰💰💰 👥 👥 👥
