Online sessions are a great way to get help if meeting in-person is not an option for you and your tutor. Luckily, you can facilitate your one-on-one and group tutoring interactions through the Knack Online Classroom. With video, whiteboard, and screen-sharing functionality, the Knack Online Classroom is an all-in-one environment designed to help you provide the best tutoring experience possible.

Here's how it works:

  • To schedule an online session, simply select 'Online' as the proposed session location.

  • Once you have an online session scheduled, you have the ability to join the Knack Online Classroom from the session details page.

The Online Classroom Experience

By default, once browser permissions are enabled, audio/video/whiteboard will be enabled upon entering the classroom.

How do I start the session/join the video call?

  1. Join an online session. Head to the session details and click the Join online classroom button.

  2. Enable video and audio in your browser. You will be prompted to give permission to your browser to access your camera and microphone. Make sure you grant these so your student can see and hear you.

  3. Have your session.

How do I use the whiteboard?

  1. Join the classroom. The whiteboard is enabled by default when you join an online session.

  2. Collaborate. You can draw, write, type, erase and move the whiteboard around! The whiteboard is real-time and collaborative between all participants.

How do I share my screen?

  1. Join the classroom. And confirm your audio and video preferences are enabled.

  2. Share your screen. Click Share to display what you see, in one window or on your entire screen, to everyone who is in the session. Only one person can share their screen at a time.

  3. Stop when you're done.

Completing the session

Select Leave call or Log time & leave call by clicking on the little red phone icon on the top-left corner.

For more information on ending a session, check out this article.

Best Practices

  • If you get lost on the whiteboard, refresh the page to get back to where you should be.

  • When sharing your screen, make sure you're looking at a screen other than the online session as this will cause a looping effect.

FAQs

What devices/browsers are supported?

Why is the classroom acting slow?

It may be your internet connection. Make sure you have a strong internet connection when using the online classroom. If your connection isn't as strong, you can try temporarily disabling your video as it will use less bandwidth!

What happens when I refresh the whiteboard?

Everything will stay there. Refreshing the whiteboard is a good way to get back to the right place if you get lost!

Can I leave the classroom and come back?

Yes, you can leave and come back to the classroom as much as you'd like. Remember: leaving the classroom will not complete the session. To do so, use the Log time function on the session details page.

Can you add new features to the whiteboard?

We'd love to! Message us (by clicking the bubble in the bottom right corner of any page) to let us know your ideas. Your feedback is tremendously important in helping us prioritize updates.

Are live captions available for my sessions? If you're on a laptop or desktop then yes, but not directly through Knack. Instead, you'll need to use an external captioner (https://webcaptioner.com/ is recommended). Simply press start and give Web Captioner access to your microphone to start captioning. This only works with external speakers and will not work with headphones.

Note: You must use a computer to access the video call. If you scheduled an online session through the Knack App, go to joinknack.com/sessions to join the video call.
