How Many Hours Can a Knack Peer Tutor Work Per Week?
Knack Peer Tutors can work up to 15 hours per week.
Why 15 Hours?
Research shows that working more than 15 hours per week can have a negative impact on a student’s academic performance. As a company committed to supporting the academic success of all students, we want to ensure that our tutors are doing well in their own courses. Here is some of that research:
Students working more than 15 hours per week are about 20% less likely to complete their degrees compared to those who don't work. This is mainly because working larger amounts leads to taking fewer credits per semester.
Students working 12 hours per week or fewer have stronger grades, while those working more than 15 hours a week are more likely to drop out due to the demands of balancing work and school.
Studies by Stinebrickner and Stinebrickner (2003) and Desimone (2008) found a strong negative relationship between GPA and each additional weekly work hour for four-year college students. Pike et al. (2008) observed a negative relationship between employment and GPA for students working more than twenty hours per week, while a positive relationship existed for those working fewer than twenty hours per week on campus
According to the Department of Labor, full-time students can work on campus for up to 8 hours per day and 20 hours per week during the academic term. Students can work up to 40 hours per week on campus during longer breaks like summer or winter break.
How Many Hours Do Knack Peer Tutors Typically Work?
On average, tutors typically work 3-4 hours a week. Less than 3% of tutors have ever worked 15 hours in a given week on the Knack Platform.
